
Poached pears in red wine by @recipesformax
The poached pears in red wine recipe makes for a classic French dessert. Easy to make and absolutely delicious. Our French Xmas table wouldn’t be complete without them.
You need
- Large pan
- 6 pears
- 750ml red wine (for cooking)
- 1 lemon
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 6 cloves
- 1 vanilla stick or 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 tbsp sugar
Step by step
- Peel and core the pears. Cut them into halves.
- Add the wine and sugar in the pan.
- Slice the lemon and add it to the mixture.
- Add the cinnamon, cloves, and vanilla.
- Place the pears in the pan and bring to the boil. Simmer for 5 to 10 minutes or until pears are tender.
- Transfer the pears to a serving plate.
- Keep the liquid boiling until it becomes syrupy (might take a while…).
- Pour the sauce (filtered) over the pears.
- Serve it with a bit of crème patisserie or vanilla ice-cream.
